[Edit] Aimed at and priced for a younger market, the 2008 Nissan Xterra S 4WD can be taken off-road. Armed with skid plates, mudguards, limited-slip front and rear differentials, a pickup-like suspension, and on-demand 4WD with 4-Lo and 4-Hi gear settings, the 2008 Xterra S 4WD is able to tackle unpaved and slippery roads with ease, but should not be engaged on dry pavement. A 4.0-liter, 265-hp DOHC V6 and 6-speed manual are standard, but a 5-speed automatic is available. Earning four-star impact ratings, the sporty SUV comes standard with 4-wheel ABS brakes, traction and stability control, dual front-side airbags, and a tire monitor. For 2008, the Xterra S 4WD gets a first aid kit and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Side curtain airbags are optional.
Tubular side steprails are new this year, along with a cargo net. The 35-cubic-foot cargo area also features ten hooks and an adjustable track system, and an organizer and cover are available. The Xterra S 4WD seats five, and the rear seats split-fold 60/40 to expand the cargo area to 66 cubic feet. The roof rack and standard exterior locked compartment offer more storage. Standard equipment includes full power features, remote entry, intermittent front and rear wipers, cruise control, a CD player, security system, and a new temperature and compass display. A double glovebox, four power outlets, and six cupholders offer more convenience for outdoor types. Options include a DVD player, navigation system, Bluetooth, and a tow package.
