[Edit] Now that the base X trim includes most of what you got on the 2007 S, the 2008 Nissan Xterra S adds more standard equipment this year, including tubular side steprails and a first aid kit. A 4.0-liter, 24-valve, DOHC V6 gets 265 hp with a standard 6-speed manual or optional 5-speed automatic. The rear-wheel-drive Xterra S shares the front double wishbone and live-axle rear suspension with the Frontier pickup and rides on 16-inch wheels with all-season tires. It gets a standard auto-dimming rearview mirror, which joins halogen headlights, skid plates, a tire monitor, 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, and traction and stability control. Dual front-side airbags and front-seat head restraints are standard, and side curtain bags can be added, helping earn four-star crash-test ratings.
A full power setup is standard on the 2008 Xterra S. Wheel-mounted cruise control, a CD player with six speakers, intermittent front and rear wipers, remote entry, and a tachometer are also standard. The cargo area features ten tie-downs, an adjustable track, and the 2008 Xterra S receives a cargo net as well. A retractable cover is optional. The standard roof rack comes with a lockable box. Rear seats split-fold 60/40, and an optional folding front passenger seat opens up the cabin for longer objects. Four power outlets are included. The 2008 Xterra S is rugged, fun to drive, and versatile for carrying cargo, but it gets only 16/21 mpg. A tow package lets you haul up to 5,000 pounds. Other options include a DVD player, Bluetooth, and a navigation system.
