2008 Ford Edge SE Summary
A quick glance at the feature list for the 2008 Ford Edge SE crossover vehicle reveals that, although it's an entry-level trim, it still comes well-equipped. Front seats with lumbar support, remote keyless entry, one-touch power windows, power door locks, power exterior mirrors, steering-wheel-mounted cruise controls, and a four-speaker AM/FM/CD audio system with an MP3 input jack are all standard features for the hunky, low-slung Edge SE. Also included are such niceties as quad-beam halogen headlights, solar-tinted side windows, and Ford's Safety Canopy System, which consists of side-curtain airbags with a rollover sensor.
The Edge SE received only a few minor updates for 2008, including new exterior chrome accents. For the most part, though, it's a carryover from the previous year. A 265-horsepower, 3.5-liter Duratec 35 V6 engine powers the Edge SE. With dual overhead cams and advanced variable cam timing, the V6 offers enhanced performance as well as fuel efficiency. It's mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with two overdrive gears, which further helps improve fuel efficiency.
Drivers and reviewers give the Edge SE good marks for its handling, acceleration, fuel economy, quietness, and cargo space, although some note that the brakes don't have the stopping power they should for a vehicle in this class.
