2008 Jeep Commander Limited Summary

The 2008 Jeep Commander Limited receives a larger engine, a higher-performance five-speed automatic transmission, an upgraded audio system, and an expanded list of standard features compared to the entry-level Sport trim. The Limited also comes with a higher axle gear ratio, which translates to poorer fuel economy, but improves the Limited's acceleration, power when climbing grades, and towing capacity.

Power comes in the form of a 4.7-liter V8 engine that produces 305 horsepower, an improvement of 95 horsepower over the entry-level Commander Sport. Naturally, fuel economy suffers when compared to the Sport's V6 engine, but Jeep notes that the new V8 is 5 percent more fuel efficient than the previous year's engine. The engine links to a Multi-Speed automatic overdrive transmission, which comes with a fifth overdrive gear that helps reduce noise and fuel consumption, as well as an alternate second gear for smooth downshifting at high speeds.

Standard features for the Commander Limited include the MyGIG Multimedia Infotainment System, a new feature for 2008. The 276-watt premium sound system comes with six Bose Acoustics speakers, a touchscreen, and a 20-gigabyte hard drive for storing music and photos. Leather-trimmed seats that are heated in the front, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, power-adjustable front seats with memory, power-adjustable pedals with memory, a power sunroof with second-row skylights, and dual-zone air conditioning are also included with the Limited package.

The Commander Limited can accommodate seven passengers, thanks to a third-row seat. In addition, the second-row seats fold flat to provide additional cargo space. Safety features include a ParkView rear backup camera and side-curtain airbags, while antilock brakes, an Electronic Stability Program, and Brake Assist, as well as rack-and-pinion steering, help improve the Commander Limited's stability, traction, and handling.
