The 2008 Pontiac Torrent Base AWD trim comes equipped with an on-demand all-wheel-drive system that delivers power to the front wheels during normal driving conditions and automatically sends power to all wheels when it detects slippage. A StabiliTrak system also provides improved traction and stability, as does the Torrent's sport suspension, which consists of MacPherson struts in the front and a coil-ring rear suspension.

Standard features for the Torrent Base AWD includes a Driver Information Center with a new digital compass, among other features, as well as a keyless entry system, power windows and door locks, cruise control, air conditioning, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a six-speaker audio system.

As in previous years, the Torrent's unique rear seat can slide forward or back, so drivers can adjust it to provide more cargo space or more legroom for backseat passengers. The back seats also recline into two positions.

A standard 185-horsepower, 3.4-liter V6 engine powers the Torrent base trim. The engine links to a five-speed, electronically controlled automatic transmission.

The Torrent received high marks in front and side impact crash tests in previous years, and comes standard with a theft-deterrent alarm system. Options include OnStar, side-impact airbags, and a power sunroof.
