2008 Pontiac Torrent Base Summary
Pontiac made only minor updates to the Torrent base trim for 2008. The SUV/wagon/crossover vehicle receives a sport suspension with MacPherson struts in the front and a coil-ring rear suspension that provides more responsive handling and a more stable, supple ride. Pontiac also added a new digital compass, which becomes part of the vehicle information center, located on the instrument panel.
As in previous years, the Torrent's unique rear seat can slide forward or back, so drivers can adjust it to provide more cargo space or more legroom for backseat passengers. The back seats also recline into two positions. Other standard features include antilock brakes, fog lights, power locks and windows, keyless entry, air conditioning, a six-speaker audio system, and a roof rack.
A standard 185-horsepower, 3.4-liter V6 engine powers the Torrent base trim. The engine links to a five-speed, electronically controlled automatic transmission.
The Torrent received high marks in front and side impact crash tests in previous years and comes standard with a theft-deterrent alarm system. Options include OnStar, side-impact airbags, and a power sunroof.
