With its low, muscular crouch, over-the-top racing stripe, and reshaped hood with functional air extractors, the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500 coupe distinguishes itself from the other Mustangs in Ford's stable. But the GT500's truly unique component lies under its hood. Power has always been the calling card of Shelby Mustangs, and that holds true for the 2008 GT500 coupe as well, thanks to its 500-horsepower, 5.4-liter, 32-valve supercharged and intercooled V8.
The beefy engine links to a Tremec six-speed manual transmission. Other unique features of the rear-wheel-drive GT500 coupe include an SVT (Special Vehicle Team) performance-tuned suspension, and 18-inch machined aluminum wheels with SVT center caps.
Interior features include unique leather sport bucket seats, a six-gauge instrument cluster with SVT graphics, and a six-speaker Shaker 500 AM/FM stereo system with a six-disc CD changer and an MP3 input jack, as well as power four-wheel disc brakes with Brembo front rotors, rack-and-pinion steering, a keyless entry system, air conditioning, power side mirrors, and power windows and door locks.
