2008 Volkswagen Jetta SE PZEV Summary
Helping bring a bit of joy to Al Gore's life, the 2008 Volkswagen Jetta SE PZEV is the low-emissions version of the midrange SE trim of this midsize sedan. Meeting California emissions standards, the 2.5-liter DOHC inline-five engine still manages to deliver 170 hp and 177 ft-lbs of torque, with estimated fuel economy around 21/29 mpg. A 5-speed manual is standard, but a 6-speed automatic is available. The front-wheel-drive sedan sits on a Macpherson strut front and multilink rear suspension, and rides on 16-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires. 17-inch alloys are optional.
Building on the base S trim, the 2008 Jetta SE PZEV adds stability control to the safety features, and leatherette upholstery, leather trim, heated front seats, a 6-CD player, and a sunroof to the standard equipment. Rating four and five stars in crash tests, the SE comes with 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, electronic brakeforce distribution, dual front-side and side curtain airbags, traction control, mirrors with turn signals, and a tire monitor. Side curtain airbags for rear passengers cost extra.
In addition to its upgrades, the 2008 Jetta SE PZEV features a full power setup, including a sunroof, a two-way power driver's seat, heated mirrors, remote entry, and cruise control. The 10-speaker sound system features an MP3 input jack in the glovebox. There are also power outlets in the front and in the trunk. Intermittent wipers, a tachometer, tilt and telescopic steering, and a temperature display round out the package. Rear seats split-fold 60/40, and in the SE PZEV the front passenger seat also folds flat. The spacious 16-cubic-foot trunk can be outfitted with optional tiedowns and a cargo net. The major option is a Sport Kit that offers a front and rear spoiler and side sill extensions.
