The Base model of the Mercury Mariner compact SUV features new exterior styling and interior design for 2008. It's powered by a 2.3-liter inline-four engine that produces 153 horsepower. A four-speed electronic automatic transmission with overdrive is standard.

Standard features for the Mercury Mariner Base model include a leather-wrapped steering wheel with speed control, power windows, a message center with compass display, and ice blue interior lighting, which includes lighting for the instrument panel, window switches, door locks, and steering wheel controls.
