The 2006 model year signified the mid-point of the 4Runner's fourth generation, as Toyota went back to the drawing board for a series of design updates. Before its 2006 release, the popular mid-size SUV was fitted with new front and rear bumpers, circular fog lamps, projector beam headlights, LED taillights, and a stronger-looking grille design.
The Limited trimmed 4Runners were the only models receive 18-inch wheels.

The V-8 models use the same electronically controlled five speed automatic transmission, which feeds the power to the rear wheels on this 4x2 version. Adding the V-8 bumps towing capacity from 5000 to 7300 pounds.
