Toyota also offered the rugged 2006 4Runner SUV with its upscale Limited trim. This finish was available with four different engine and drive train combinations, like both lower trims. For the 2006 model year, the entire 4Runner line received some notable exterior revisions, including a new front and rear bumper design, a bolder grille, new projection headlights, and new LED taillights.
All 4Runners are well-appointed, and presented by Toyota as mid-size semi-luxury SUVs.
Features for 2006 included full power accessories, keyless entry, cruise control, running boards, and a CD sound system with an input jack for portable devices. The Limited added dual zone climate control, leather seating, heated front seats, and illuminated running boards. Eighteen inch wheels were exclusive to this trim. The Limited models were also eligible for more options, which included a DVD-based navigation system and a rear seat DVD entertainment system.
The V-6 found under the hood of this model is a 4.0 liter DOHC power plant, enhanced by Toyota's Variable Valve Timing System. An output of 236 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque is sent to the rear wheels through an electronically controlled five speed automatic transmission. This engine and drive train combination produces a 17/21 mpg fuel economy, which is the most efficient of any 4Runner.
