2006 BMW 325ci Summary
In 2006, BMW did a tires up revision of the 3 Series. In keeping with their tradition, the coupes, convertibles, which were substantially freshened in 2004, and M series remained unchanged waiting for a later redesign.
Unchanged for 2006, the 325ci coupe retains the 2005 2.5-liter, dohc 24-valve, 184-hp inline six cylinder engine. The standard manual five-speed and optional five-speed automatic also carry over from last year. Consumer Guide managed 0-60 in 8.1 seconds with an automatic transmission Ci convertible. Gas mileage with the same car averaged 16.2-22 mpg in a city/highway mix.
The front bucket seats are comfortable, but the back is a bit cramp. Gauges and instruments are clearly marked. Performance is adequate given the engine's hp rating and its firm handling lives up to the BMW sport driving dynamics. The trunk is small.
Safety equipment includes ABS, traction and stability control, side-impact airbags and curtain-type bags for the front side seats; rear side-impact airbags are optional. Yet, Consumer Guide found mediocre traction in snow.
Although Consumer Guide points out that the 2006 325ci design is vintage 1999 and is due for an overhaul, they still find, "no comparable rival is more refined or dynamically capable overall." In other words, it could be a good buy if you can find it for a reasonable price.
