The 1998 RL Special Edition has the same engine as the base RL: a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 210 horsepower and 224 lb-ft of torque. Gas mileage was estimated at 19 city/25 highway. The Special Edition trim adds heated front seats, a CD changer, and two-tone paint.
Drivers have complained that the CD changer should be an in-dash model rather than in the trunk. Otherwise, the Bose stereo gets very positive reviews.
