2007 Mercury Mountaineer AWD Premier 4.6L Summary
There's only one thing more you could ask for on a loaded Premier V8 all-wheel drive. Well, this one has it, and it's truly a comfortable and capable SUV.
The 4.6-liter three-valve SOHC V8 under the hood produces the equivalent of 292 horses. If you're planning to do some towing, the numbers you really want to know concern the 300 lb.-ft. of torque and 7,130-pound towing capacity (when properly equipped, of course).
This is not an immense engine as it is, but if it werent mated to an efficient 6-speed automatic transmission, the gas mileage would be truly atrocious. Expect 15 mpg in the city and 21 on the highway - numbers that you arent going to brag about to anyone anytime soon.
Aside from the automatic AWD system, comforts and conveniences are many on this trim. The standard equipment list includes leather seats, the Reverse Sensing System, separate climate controls for second row, an upgraded Audiophile Sound System with 6-CD changer (in-dash, of course), and a universal garage-door opener. On the exterior, the list features power heated side mirrors, running boards, and 18-inch chrome wheels.
If you're looking to add even more, consider heated front-row seats, a power-deployable feature on the running boards, roof rails (black), power-adjustable pedals, Sirius Satellite Radio, and the Rear-Seat Entertainment System. Some of the options come grouped as packages: the Quad Seats Package adds a center console to the second row, the self-explanatory Navigation and Moonroof Package adds those two things, and the Class III/IV Trailer Tow Package equips the SUV for pulling more than 7,000 pounds.
Government crash-test results are great; the NHTSA awarded the Mountaineer a full 5 stars in all tests except for the Rollover Test, in which it scored a mere 3 stars. In the IIHS Frontal Offset Crash Test the vehicle received highest-level rankings across the board.
