2005 Subaru Outback 3.0R L.L. Bean Edition Wagon Summary

There's a certain outdoorsy cachet with being associated with Maine retailer, L.L. Bean.  Gaining some inches in length and wheelbase and a minor facelift, the 2005 Subaru Outback 3.0 R L.L. Bean Edition is a lot like the 2.5 XT Limited, but with a bigger 3.0-liter, 250-hp DOHC H6 and 5-speed Sport shift automatic.  With more ground clearance than the Legacy, the Outback is all-wheel drive, with limited slip rear and center differentials, 4-wheel ABS brakes, an independent suspension, foglights, automatic headlights, and mirrors with turn signals.  The 2005 Outback 3.0 R L.L. Bean also adds a standard auto-dimming rearview mirror.  New side curtain airbags for both rows of seats join the dual front-side airbags.  Five-star safety ratings make this wagon a popular family vehicle in northern climates.

As for comfort, it comes in the form of heated leather seats, heated mirrors, automatic climate control, wheel-mounted audio controls for the CD changer, cruise control, a trip computer, intermittent front and rear wipers, and a power sunroof.  Rear seats split-fold to expand the cargo area from 33 to 66 cubic feet.  Tie-downs and a cargo cover are included.  The 2005 Outback L.L. Bean also comes with a roof rack.  A trailer hitch can be added to tow up to 3000 pounds.  Owners like the new styling and especially the AWD grip.  Handling is tight and the ride is generally smooth.  There are some reports of dash rattling, and owners are somewhat disappointed by the lack of power for an H6 engine.
