Jaguar's flagship full-size luxury performance sedan undergoes minor changes for 2006. An extra 10 horsepower brings the 4.2-liter supercharged V8 up to an even 400 hp. 0-60 materializes in five seconds, with an electronically governed 155 mph top speed. All of this power transmits through the silky-smooth ZF six-speed adaptive automatic transmission. Electronically linked to the engine-management system, the transmission adapts to both road conditions and driver input.
Jaguar's Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) employs an air suspension system that continuously regulates damping to suit driving conditions - soft to firm and back, and all shades in between - and takes only milliseconds to make adjustments. Tied to an all-aluminum full stress-skin monocoque construction, the XJ line employs aerospace design architecture to make the car stronger, lighter, and safer than ordinary steel-bodied vehicles.
Pure Jaguar luxury seats the occupants in plush comfort. Surrounded by leather and real wood trim, the 2006 model adds acoustic laminated side glass in response to complaints about road noise levels with the high performance tires. Also this model year, Jaguar added a tire-pressure monitoring system using radio-frequencies that check all the tires including the spare. Another new option arrived with the addition of Bluetooth wireless phone technology.
Overall, the XJR's exterior represents typical understated British elegance - no hood scoops or flying spoilers here! And the refined, comfortable ride reflects this conservative British approach to luxury sport sedans. An optional DVD-based entertainment system keeps back-seaters occupied while the folks up front enjoy flying over the pavement. And up there, a full array of electronic wizardry keeps them comfortable - from specially bolstered power sport seats to fully adjustable steering wheel and foot pedals to a radar-based adaptive cruise control.
