The 4x2 Double Cab is one of the few Tundra models to still use the V-6 engine. This 4x2 takes a couple steps beyond the base, by adding the Double Cab layout and the SR5 trim level. SR5, which comes standard on this Tundra, adds several power features and exterior chrome trimmings. The Double Cab design replaces the Access Cab for 2007, but the cab layout remains the same. The Double Cab has four doors, but the rear doors are smaller and swing open in the opposing direction from the fronts. This allows easier entrance and exit for rear passengers.
Tundra's smallest engine option is a DOHC 4.0 liter V-6, carried over from the first generation. This V-6 provides the 4900 pound pickup with 236 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. Toyota adds their original Variable Valve Timing + intelligence system, which boosts horsepower while limiting emissions and increasing fuel efficiency. This Tundra receives ULEV II recognition and achieves a 17/20 mpg EPA rating.
Due to the power limitations of the smaller engine, Toyota will not offer the long bed option with the V-6 Double Cab. Consequently, the payload drops below 1500 pounds. This is the lowest for any Tundra. Towing capacity also falls considerably short of other Tundras, dipping below 5000 pounds on this model. The special towing package is not offered with the V-6.
