The Chrysler Sebring entered its final year of first generation production in 2006. Chrysler would totally reinvent the sedan for 2007, in response to years of concern about the car's stale 1990s Cirrus-like presentation. The Eclipse-based coupe was dropped for this model year.
The Base Sebring is considerably well-equipped for its price, just $3000 short of Sebring's top shelf TSi sedan. Standard features on this model include a CD sound system, power windows and door locks, air conditioning and cruise control.
Both the convertible and sedan base models are powered by a 2.4 liter DOHC inline four cylinder engine, which provides 150 horsepower and 160 pound-feet of torque. The modest power plant offers 22/30 mpg fuel economy, but it is replaced by larger V-6 on all other models. All Sebrings are driven by a four-speed automatic transmission.
Like its Cirrus predecessor, the Sebring's success has been hampered by recurring build quality issues. Chrysler's mid-size sedan has been panned by drivers and reviewers for its uninviting cabin and low quality materials.
