The 2006 Scion xB Base model was powered by a 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine that produced 103 horsepower. A five-speed manual transmission was standard, while a four-speed automatic was available as an option.

The xB received a minor makeover for 2006, and was equipped with a number of new features, including new bumpers, headlights, taillights, and exterior side mirrors with integrated turn signals. Also new was a multifunction steering wheel with audio controls, a Pioneer AM/FM stereo system with a CD player and iPod connectivity, and a choice of three new wheel covers for its 15-inch wheels.

Beyond that, standard and optional features were quite extensive. In fact, the Scion xB offered about 40 different accessories that drivers could choose at the dealership to customize their ride.

Standard features included power windows and door locks, anti-lock brakes, air conditioning, a tilt steering wheel, a split-folding second-row seat, dual front airbags, a rear window wiper, power exterior mirrors, and even a first aid kit.

Drivers were pleased with the xB's handling, but they noted that the car's firm suspension could lead to discomfort on long trips. The xB also earned accolades for roominess, high seat height and visibility, sound system, and fuel economy. The budget price, combined with Toyota quality, also had great appeal. But drivers considered the car's noisy and underpowered engine is a drawback.
