A more upscale version of the rally-inspired sedan is offered this year, in the form of the 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX Limited. Powered by a 2.5-liter, turbocharged DOHC H4 that now hits 230-hp, the 2006 Impreza WRX Limited comes with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed auto tran, and features all-wheel drive performance with a limited slip center and rear differential. 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes, foglights, front and rear stabilizer bars, a fully independent suspension, and dual front-side airbags are standard. Dual-stage deploying airbags are new this year, along with a revised front end and smoked headlamps.
A rear spoiler, front air dam, 17-inch alloy wheels and all-season tires, leather trim, and front sport seats reinforce the racing image of the otherwise unassuming compact sedan. The 2006 Impreza WRX Limited adds leather upholstery, heated seats and mirrors, automatic climate control, and a sunroof to the the plain WRX. A CD changer, wheel-mounted cruise control, power features, and daytime running lights are also standard. Rear seats do not split-fold, however, leaving the trunk capacity at 11 cubic feet. Skid plates, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a security system are add-ons. Drivers love the power, pickup, AWD grip, handling, and the extra features. So-so 20/26 fuel economy, premium gas, cramped rear legroom, and a front end that takes getting used to are mentioned negatively.
