The 2006 Toyota Highlander is unchanged with respect to styling and mechanics, but the crossover SUV is now available in eight variations.  The Sport trim is new for 2006.  This mid-level trim package finishes the Highlander with a slightly more aggressive appearance.

The Sport trim adds fog lamps, a special grille, chrome exterior trim, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, a power driver's seat, and 17 inch alloy wheels.  All of the base trim's standard features are also here, including the six speaker CD audio system, full power accessories, keyless entry, air conditioning, and cruise control.

Highlander's Sport and Limited trims are only available with the V-6.  This 3.3 liter DOHC engine generates 215 horsepower and 222 pound-feet of torque.  The 2WD version will offer a slightly better fuel economy of 19/25 mpg.  The Highlander is built upon the Toyota Camry platform, and suspension is geared more towards ride quality than handling.  A sport-tuned suspension has been included on the Sport, and this Highlander handles with a bit more agility than the others.
