The Corolla CE is the entry level model for Toyota's immensely popular compact sedan.  This base trim comes with 15 inch wheels, power mirrors, a CD player, air conditioning, and an outside temperature gauge.  ABS, power windows and locks, and cruise control are optional.
The CE is powered by a 1.8 liter inline four cylinder engine, which generates 126 horsepower and 122 pound-feet of torque.  The small power plant is enhanced by Toyota's Variable valve Timing + intelligence system.   VVT-i helps draw more power from the engine, while increasing fuel efficiency and lowering emissions.  The Corolla has an EPA rating of 30/38 mpg.  It is available in either automatic or manual transmissions.

The enduring Corolla and trendy Matrix are two distinct vehicles, but they are both built from the same platform.  Both offer a very high roof line for their size, adding to passenger headroom.  The Corolla showcases the same interior build quality found in more upscale Toyota models, but is priced to compete with cars like the Honda Civic and Mazada 3 in the ever-expending compact sedan market.  A important caveat for Corolla buyers is a very poor side impact safety rating.  Side curtain airbags will improve this, but they are optional on all Corolla models.
