2007 Jeep Commander Sport 4X4 Summary
Buyers of the base-model Commander Sport can roll with the Quadra-Trac I part-time 4WD or choose to upgrade to the Quadra-Trac II, a convenient full-time 4WD that allows for use on dry pavement (the traditional Quadra-Trac I is for use on slippery surfaces only). Each program has a two-speed transfer case with low-range gearing for off-road driving.
The Sport comes in with a 3.7-liter, 210-horsepower single overhead cam V6 that delivers an adequate 235 pound-feet of torque. In Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, New York, and California buyers may upgrade to the 4.7-liter Magnum V8, while those in the other 45 states can choose the flexible-fuel version of this engine. Each furnishes 235 horsepower, but in torque the former exceeds the latter by 10 lb.-ft. (305 vs. 295 at 3600 rpm).
It is available in the standard 5-speed automatic or optional multi-speed overdrive automataic, and its standard equipment includes electronic throttle control, air conditioning, keyless entry, and power windows and locks.
The Commander Sport also features Jeeps Electronic Stability Program (ESP), which consists of traction control, brake assist, and Electronic Roll Mitigation. The system senses the need for braking and power reduction at each wheel and transfers the appropriate response where it is needed.
A helpful gadget on every Commander is the ParkSense rear-park assistance, which detects the closeness of stationary objects and uses sound and display indicators to help the driver park safely. It makes parking this large, boxy vehicle much easier and safer.
An option for a Class II Trailer Tow package is available, and it will allow the Sport to pull up to 3,500 pounds. There are also options for remote start, fog lamps, heated power-adjustable front seats with memory function, and a power sunroof/fixed skylight combo package.
