[Edit] Hitting 0-60 in 3.3 seconds, the 2006 Ford GT Base is a limited edition supercar with nods to its 1960s GT40 predecessor. A mid-mounted 550-hp, 5.4-liter DOHC V8 engine and 6-speed manual transmission get 500 lb-ft of torque. The rear-wheel drive coupe features a full independent suspension, limited slip rear differential, electronic brakeforce distribution, and 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes. Dual front airbags are standard. 19-inch tires in the back and 18-inch up front help with superior road grip.
Though tiny inside, the 2006 Ford GT is well equipped with leather seating and trim for the steering wheel, consoles, and dash. Air conditioning, full power features, tilt and telescopic steering, and a new CD/MP3 player provided unexpected luxury. Intermittent wipers, foglights, and xenon headlights are both convenient and safe. The sport seats keep you secure in tight turns. A rear spoiler adds performance and a sporty appearance, as if the roof and hood striping weren't enough. Options include an updated audio system. A somewhat unfinished looking interior, tiny cargo room, and poor fuel economy are disappointments for owners, but the power and handling keep drivers happy.
