This Tacoma variation ascends one step beyond the absolute base level of the lineup, by replacing the five speed manual transmission with a four speed automatic.  The transmission is mated to a 2.7 liter DOHC inline four, supported by TRD's Variable Valve Timing + intelligence technology.
The engine provides the rear wheel drive compact truck with 59 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque.  The EPA estimate for this model is 21/26 mpg.
The Regular Cab models are fairly stripped features-wise, with just a CD player, cup holders and all season tires with a full size spare as notable standard items.  All models are equipped with ABS, featuring Toyota's Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and BrakeAssist systems.  The three-passenger front bench seat is only found in the Regular Cab layout.
