The Tacoma represents the sixth incarnation of the Toyota truck, and this popular 'compact" pickup has continued to evolve since its 1995 introduction.  After a total overhaul for the 2005 model year, the Tacoma has literally outgrown its compact truck designation.

The short bed Regular Cab models are 190 inches long and 3600 pounds,  and the Tacoma only grows larger from here.  Standard equipment on this variation includes a four speaker CD audio system, cup holders, all season tires with a full size spare, and bed storage compartments. Toyota's ABS system with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and BrakeAssist is now included on all models.  The automatic transmission version of this 4x4 truck can be fitted with off-road enhancements like Hill-start Assist Control and Downhill Assist Control.

Tacoma's base engine is a 2.7 liter DOHC inline four, which produces 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque.  A four-speed automatic and five-speed manual transmission are available on this model. Drivers who need to tow should opt for a V-6 Tacoma, because towing capacity is just 3500 pounds for this model. Drivers were generally pleased with the 19/23 mpg gas mileage, which is considerably high for a 4x4 pickup.
