2005 Toyota Tacoma 4 Dr PreRunner V6 Extended Cab SB Summary
This year's Tacoma is fully redesigned, as Toyota adds new variations, larger engines, more refined transmissions, and an all new platform. The new Land Rover Prado-based Tacoma is offered in thirteen configurations, and most are available with either a manual or automatic transmission.
This model is powered by Tacoma's new larger engine: a 4.0 liter DOHC V-6. This power plant generates 236 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. All PreRunners are 4x2s, and power is routed to the rear wheels through either a new six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmission. Mixed driving gas mileage is expected at around 20 mpg for V-6 models, and towing is boosted to 6500 pounds.
The PreRunner was introduced in 1998, as Toyota began to seek out new buyers for its poplar compact pickup. All PreRunners are 4x2s, but they receive the bold styling of a capable 4x4, and an off-road suspension system. PreRunner is technically a Tacoma trim level, but convenience features are really dependent on the cab size. Access Cab models come with a full size spare, CD audio system, and air conditioning.
