The 2005 Tacoma is larger and more powerful, following a full redesign after the 2004 model year.  The popular (now mid-size) pickup is offered in thirteen different configurations, and this model is just one notch short of the top of the line, due to the inclusion of the shorter of two bed lengths.

Still, this Crew Cab model comes the complete list of Tacoma standard features, including air conditioning, a CD sound system, keyless entry, a full size spare, and full power accessories. Optional enhancement packages include SR5, TRD Sport, and TRD Off-Road.

The new V-6 is 4.0 liter unit, generating 236 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. The power is routed to all four wheels through either a five speed electronically controlled automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. The short bed Double Cab models weigh just over 4000 pounds when equipped with 4WD, and Toyota claims a towing capacity of 6500 pounds. Drivers should expect highway gas mileage around 20 mpg.
