2005 Toyota Highlander Base AWD Summary
The Toyota Highlander enters its fifth year of production with a few updates. The widely popular crossover SUV is still in its first generation, but some significant changes came in both 2005 and 2006. New standard features this year include a roof rack, extra storage, and keyless entry.
There are four variations of the base, or Standard, trim Highlander. This model is the second tier of six possible configurations, adding AWD to the list of standard items. Other included features: power windows and door locks, air conditioning, keyless entry and a six-speaker CD sound system. A third row of compact is an add-on for the two four-cylinder models, and standard on all others. A rear-seat DVD entertainment system is optional on every Highlander.
A 2.4 liter DOHC inline four is the smaller of two available Highlander engines. This power plant is teamed with a four-speed automatic transmission, and generates 155 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Four cylinder models will tow just 3000 pounds, but even the AWD model offers strong 20/25 mpg fuel economy.
