2005 Toyota Corolla CE Summary
Toyota's ninth generation Corolla gets a mid-cycle styling update for 2005, bringing the first significant changes since the full redesign in 2003. Front styling and taillight design are both new. Safety items like side-curtain airbags and Vehicle Stability control are added to the options roster.
Corolla's standard engine is a 1.8 liter DOHC inline four cylinder, which produces 130 horsepower and 125 pound-feet of torque. The highly efficient VVT-i engine offers 30/38 mpg mileage with the four-speed automatic, and 32/41 mpg with the five-speed manual transmission.
The base level Corolla is called the CE. Standard equipment on this trim includes a CD audio system, air conditioning, 15-inch wheels, power mirrors and an out side temperature gauge.
This Corolla is not as variable as past models, currently offered only in sedan form. Some Toyota enthusiasts have called for the return compact wagon, but the Matrix now offers a stylish substitute. Both cars are built from the same platform. Drivers have also reported that the non-XRS models are less-than-thrilling to drive, but the combination of reliability and efficiency has continued to attract new buyers.
