[Edit] The 2006 Toyota Camry was available in ten variations, thanks to the availability of four trims, two engines, and two transmissions. Models ranged from the lightly equipped Standard trim to the fully loaded XLE, with this V6-powered XLE as the top shelf model for 2006. There were no changes for this year, but a full overhaul would reinvent the Camry for 2007.
This trim provided the Camry's high quality and highly functional interior with a luxurious finish. This XLE model came with full power accessories, keyless entry, a premium sound system, cruise control, a power driver's seat, automatic climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and leather upholstery. An in-dash CD changer and a DVD-based navigation system were optional.
The power plant for this model was a 3.0 liter DOHC V-6, enhanced by Toyota's Variable Valve Timing + intelligence technology. VVT-i helped all Toyota engine reach their full power output potential, while curbing emissions and boosting fuel efficiency. The larger engine was still fairly economical, with an EPA estimate of 20/28 mpg. The V-6 delivered 190 horsepower and 197 pound-feet of torque, and it was paired with the five speed automatic as the only transmission option. This was the case for all Camry trims: there was no V-6/manual combination.
Several owners likened the fully loaded XLE to the Lexus ES 330, with respect to features and comfort. While the Camry was a bit less powerful, drivers could enjoy many of the same amenities for thousands of dollars less than the ES. The gap between the two would be narrowed a bit in 2007, when the Camry received a more powerful engine.
This overview covers this specific trim only. You can read more on our 2006 Toyota Camry page.
