2005 Subaru Outback 2.5 i Wagon Summary

Based on a Legacy platform, but sitting slightly higher for more rugged road performance, the all-wheel drive 2005 Subaru Outback 2.5i Wagon is the base trim for this model, but it gets a redesign, a longer wheelbase, and the addition of side curtain airbags to the dual front-side ones.  Powered by a new 2.5-liter, 168-hp H4 that gets 166 lb-ft of torque, the 2005 Outback 2.5i comes with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed auto tran and sits on 16-inch wheels with all-season tires.  Limited slip rear and center differentials accompany the AWD, along with 4-wheel disc and ABS brakes and an independent suspension.  Foglights and daytime running lights are standard.

Like the Legacy, the cargo area in the 2005 Outback 2.5i expands from 34 to 66 cubic feet with the rear seats down and features tie-downs and a cargo cover.  A roof rack supplements storage options.  Inside, you'll find the full power setup, along with heated front seats and mirrors, a trip computer, intermittent front and rear wipers, cruise control, a CD player, and a security system.  Outside, a rear spoiler adds some flair to the conservative wagon.  An auto-dimming rearview mirror is extra, as is a trailer hitch if you want to tow up to 2700 pounds.  A quiet ride, 5-star crash ratings, tight handling, lots of cargo room, and the high ride height stand out for owners of the 2005 Outback 2.5i Wagon, but they don't like the rear legroom and erratic cruise control, and wish it got a little more power.
