The 2003 BMW 525i was a four-door luxury sports sedan powered by a 2.5-liter six-cylinder engine that produced 184 horsepower. A six-speed manual overdrive transmission was standard, while a six-speed automatic was available as an option.
While the 525i may have been the least expensive entry in the 5-series lineup, it came loaded with luxury features, ranging from a state-of-the-art stereo system to standard leatherette upholstery.
Other standard features included a power sunroof, multi-zone climate control, power windows, power heated exterior mirrors, a power-adjustable driver's seats, cruise control, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, power door locks, and an anti-theft alarm system.
Four-wheel anti-lock brakes, traction control, stability control, and 16-inch alloy wheels are also part of the package.
Like previous versions of the 525, the 2003 version got high ratings in side and frontal impact crash tests, and drivers generally liked the way the car handled and felt.
Test drivers also like the details incorporated into the car's features and engineering: a rechargeable flashlight in the glove box, a road side emergency triangle included standard in the trunk, and automatic windows that sensed and stopped whenever an object was in their path, preventing injuries.
