Hyundai Entourage History

When Hyundai set out to create its first minivan, it went all out. Working on a platform borrowed from the Kia Sedona, Hyundai fashioned a big, capable minivan called the Entourage. Design-wise, the front-wheel-drive Entourage bears similarities to the Sedona, on which it is based, as well as the Honda Odyssey, which it competes against. Realizing that it was coming late to the competitive minivan market segment, Hyundai worked hard to ensure that the Entourage offers a lot to busy families.

The Entourage excels in safety features, for instance, receiving the best crash-test rating ever awarded to a minivan by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Side curtain airbags for all passengers, including those in the third row, come included as standard equipment. Antilock brakes, active front head restraints, electronic stability control, and traction control are also included with the standard package.

A 242-horsepower, 3.8-liter V6 ably drives the Entourage, though gas mileage is not one of this minivan's strongest points. Handling and quietness, however, have impressed drivers and reviewers, as has its flexible interior, with rear seats that fold down to provide additional cargo space.

To differentiate the Entourage in the marketplace, Hyundai gave the interior an upscale feel, and made such features as power sliding side doors, a power liftgate, and heated leather seats standard equipment on some trims. In addition, Hyundai strived to keep the Entourage reasonably priced, making it a good value for families who need plenty of interior space.
