Nissan Versa History

The Versa is the latest addition to the Nissan family. Though sold overseas for a few years as the Nissan Tilda, the Versa was brand new to the US for 2006. Versa stands for "versatile space," which refers to the Versa's relatively roomy trunk and interior.

The Versa nudged the Sentra out of the entry-level spot, and is going up against a smattering of small, entry-level cars that were released around the same time, including the Honda Fit, Chevrolet Aveo, and Toyota Yaris.

The Versa stands out from its competitors by offering a higher-end interior with plenty of high tech options, like Bluetooth connectivity, a push button startup, and satellite radio.

A Versa sedan is in the works for 2007. Nismo, Nissan's tuning division, is designing a Versa trim that will include a sport suspension and wheels and unique interior and exterior styling.
