Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG History

Launched in 2006, the S65 AMG combines cutting-edge design with raw power to create one of the most powerful sport luxury sedans available today. The car's aerodynamic exterior styling, sport-oriented interior, and impressive powerplant were all designed by AMG, the in-house performance tuner for Mercedes.

In its first year, the S65 AMG was powered by a 604-horsepower, twin-turbo V12. For the 2007 model year, that was replaced by a more powerful 612-horsepower twin-turbocharged V12, which pushed the vehicle from 0 to 100 mph in just 4.4 seconds. The AMG SpeedShift five-speed automatic transmission was controlled by shifter panels mounted on the steering wheel, which allowed for easy access.

For 2007, the S65, as well as the other S-Class vehicles, received a redesign, resulting in a sleeker, more aerodynamic, and more muscular appearance. Exterior upgrades for the S65 included a new front end with large inlets and lateral outlets that funneled air into and out of the engine, as well as new side skirts and a new rear apron. In addition, newly designed V12 tailpipes helped shape the engine's visceral exhaust note.

Inside, AMG upgrades include leather sport seats with generous lateral support, an ergonomic multifunction steering wheel, sporty stainless steel pedals with non-slip black rubber pads, and an analogue clock on the dashboard.

Other features include an Active Body Control suspension, hydraulic dual-circuit brakes with brake booster and Brake Assist, and speed-sensitive power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering.
