Chevrolet Impala History

Few cars have as mixed a history as the Impala. Released in 1958 as an offshoot of the Corvette, newer versions have moved away from the sports/power car image and into the bin of mid-sized sedans competing with the Camry and Accord.

Production of the car was halted twice: once after the 1985 model, and again after the 1996 version. Originally conceived as a muscle car, the Impala had to adjust to rising gas costs and resulting consumer needs.
