[Edit] The Honda Pilot rolls into the 2008 model year with virtually no changes to its engine and exterior design, although a couple of new trim packages have been added to expand the line. Many suspect that 2008 will be the Pilot's last year of its current design before a new generation of vehicles hits showrooms, so the 2008 version might seem a bit dated to some. However, it also might prove advantageous for bargain-hunting drivers, especially if Honda starts cutting deals to move the vehicles off the lot at the end of the model year.
Overall, the 2008 Pilot retains its functional design, which might not appeal to some drivers who seek a sportier, sleeker-looking SUV or crossover vehicle. Still, the Pilot offers plenty of interior space, with enough room to comfortably seat eight.
The two new trim packages include the VP (Value Package) and the SE (Special Edition). They join the EX and EX-L versions, which carry over from the previous year. Drivers can order all trim packages with either front-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive.
As its name indicates, the VP occupies the entry-level slot for 2008, but even for a value-priced model it's reasonably equipped with such features as steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, a roof rack, machine-finished alloy wheels, and a seven-speaker AM/FM stereo system with XM satellite radio and a six-disc CD changer.
The SE adds such features as a power moonroof with a tilt feature and a DVD Rear Entertainment System.
All 2008 Pilots receive a 244-horsepower, 3.5-liter, 24-valve V6 engine, which links to a five-speed automatic transmission with Grade Logic Control for smooth shifting. Antilock brakes, dual-stage front airbags, front and rear crush zones, traction control, and a theft-deterrent key system are also standard across the line.
