The Toyota Highlander Hybrid got bigger and sleeker for 2008. This environmentally friendly SUV comes in two trims: Base and Limited. Both trims sport a 3.3-liter, 270-hp V6 engine.
The Highlander Hybrid has 4 doors and seats either 5 or 7. Seven-seat Highlanders have a foldable third row that seats 2. Options include leather seats, a back-seat entertainment system featuring a 9-inch screen, and a navigation system. Switch to EV mode and you slowly roll up to 5 miles on battery power. You also get side-impact airbags in the front row of seats and side-curtain bags for all 3 rows.
Overall, reviewers like the improved interior and extensive airbag coverage. On the other hand, some might consider the Highlander a bit of a gimmick, because it can only go 5 miles on electric power alone. In any event, the 2008 Highlander Hybrid looks better than its predecessor and takes noticeable baby steps toward weaning itself off gasoline.
