CarGurus' 2007 Chevrolet Silverado Classic 3500 Review

To distinguish itself from the next generation of the Chevrolet Silverado 3500, also released in 2007, the previous generation refers to itself as the Silverado 3500 Classic.  This full-size, one-ton pickup is available in rear-wheel or four-wheel drive, in Regular, Crew, and Extended cabs, and with a choice of a short 6.6-foot bed or a long 8-foot bed.  There are five trim levels, from the classic Work Truck, to LS, and three LTs (1LT, 2LT, 3LT), which offer more standard equipment.

There are three V8 engine choices in the 2007 Silverado 3500 Classic -- a 300-hp 6.0 V8 with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic, a 330-hp 8.1 V8 with an Allison 6-speed automatic, and a 360-hp Duramax 6.6 turbodiesel V8 with the Allison automatic.  The Duramax also features 650 lb-ft of torque for maximum performance.  ABS and dual front airbags are standard, and traction control optional.  Stability control is not available on the 2007 Silverado 3500 Classic.  Towing up to 12,000 pounds, the 3500 Classic is utilitarian in purpose, though its two rows of seats does hold four people comfortably, with a front bench folding 40/20/40.  The 3500 Classic also offers the option of dual rear wheels, for heavy duty hauling.

The Work Truck is just like its name implies, all work and no play.  Stepping up to the LS adds cruise control, and the LT lineup adds power features, auto-dimming mirrors, a power driver's seat, wheel-mounted controls, and OnStar.  When you want to mix business with pleasure, the 3LT also has leather seats, a 6-CD player, and folding mirrors.
