An all-new, next-generation Cadillac CTS debuts for the 2008 model year, and some reviewers have called it the most important new Cadillac in a decade. That could be true, but a first look reveals a cutting-edge, distinctive design that will no doubt win many fans but also could turn some potential buyers away.
The CTS's new sharp-edged design scheme starts at the front end, with its pointy trapezoidal headlights and wide-mouthed, double-bar grille. Drivers who want to make a statement with their vehicles will love it, as it's impossible to ignore. Adding to its aggressiveness, the grille jumps down below the front bumper, extending its depth. The rear end has a less drastic, softer but no less contemporary look to it.
The new CTS grows in width by a couple of inches for 2008 and gains a new optional 300-horsepower, 3.6-liter, direct-fuel-injection V6 engine. For its standard powerplant, the 2008 CTS receives a 258-horsepower V6 with variable valve timing.
Also new for 2008, the CTS can be equipped with an optional advanced all-wheel-drive system that optimizes traction on all types of road surfaces.
Other new options for 2008 include adaptive forward lighting, which automatically turns the headlights in the direction the driver steers, and a 10-speaker Bose 5.1 Cabin Surround Sound system. Drivers can also opt for the UltraView sunroof with power sunshade, a double-sized sunroof that covers 70 percent of the roof area and provides wide-open views.
Of course, this being a Cadillac, drivers expect a luxury interior, and the 2008 CTS delivers with its redesigned, premium, handcrafted interior.
