CarGurus' 2007 Dodge Caliber Review

The 2007 Dodge Caliber is the newest addition to the Dodge family for 2007, replacing the long-popular Dodge Neon.  With two engine options, a 1.8-liter I4 or a 2.4-liter I4, the 2007 Dodge Caliber is a highly versatile vehicle.  There are two transmissions available, a 5 speed manual or Dodge's second generation CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) transmission.  Fuel mileage is pretty decent, at around 24/27 miles per gallon.
The interior of the 2007 Dodge Caliber is roomier than it appears from the outside, mostly due to the unique shape of the front seats that add to the leg room.  Cargo room is also up there, especially with rear seats that fold flat, for a grand total of 48 cubic feet.  There are also a fair number of comfort features, depending on the trim that you pick.  Air conditioning, a trip computer, and a 6-CD changer are all options, though these are not anything unique.  Dodge did add some fun touches to the 2007 Caliber.  For example, MusicGate, speakers that can be turned around to face the rear of the car, perfect for any tailgate party.  Or the rechargeable dome light that can be removed and used as a flashlight.  There's also a cooler in the glove box.  Dodge seems to have really gone out of their way in trying to design this new hatchback.
The vast majority of owners like their 2007 Dodge Caliber; quite a few of those LOVE it.  It's everything that it's trying to be: an affordable, user friendly, comfortable commuter car.  A number of people with families were not impressed, but typically, single drivers had little to complain about.  Some favorite features were the room, the sound system, and the surprising amount of power from the 4 cylinder.  Nobody was terribly impressed with the cooler, a neat idea that only works if the AC is blasting, apparently.  But honestly, how much does that matter?  Overall, this is an excellent low-end vehicle.
