Mercedes-Benz dropped a brand new, 5.0 liter V8 engine into the 1999 SL500. The end result was a whopping 302 horsepower rating for a classic sports roadster.
The car also got some cosmetic upgrades which left it "oozing with style." Those changes included new side view mirrors from the SLK, body-colored door handles and new side molding, new taillights, new exterior colors, a new instrument panel, new shifter and shift gate and a new four-spoke steering wheel.
The car got "surprisingly good gas mileage," but some owners felt the workmanship and materials used in building the SL500 weren't up to snuff.
