Within days of its release, more than one automotive journalist had billed the 2001 Mercedes-Benz S600 as "the best sedan in the world." The car featured a new Mercedes engine, a 362 horsepower V12 that offered "effortless thrust with an uncanny ability for overall refinement."
The engine not only offered better performance but improved the gas guzzling S600's fuel economy by 20 percent. The engine also improved torque.
Other standard features included ABD active suspension, high polish 17-inch alloy wheels, dual exhaust, and a trunk mounted CD changer. An optional sport package gave the car a slightly more aggressive look.
