Mercedes-Benz continued to expand the C320 lineup for 2003. In addition to a sedan (introduced in 2001) and wagon (introduced in 2002), the lineup now included a sedan and wagon equipped with the automaker's 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. In addition, a two-door hatchback model was available.
Power for all versions of the C320 was provided by a 3.2-liter V6 engine that produced 215 horsepower. A five-speed automatic was the standard transmission. No manual was available with this vehicle. The automatic was equipped with the Touch Shift feature, which enabled the driver to upshift and downshift, depending on driving conditions, by nudging the shift lever left or right.
Standard features for the C320 included power windows, power heated mirrors, power-adjustable front seats with memory, leather seats throughout, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob with audio controls mounted on the steering wheel, air conditioning, a keyless entry system, interior wood trim, cruise control, a trip computer, and a premium Bose audio system.
Other features included 16-inch alloy wheels, traction control, anti-lock brakes, an anti-skid system, and stability control, as well as a full complement of airbags.
The C320's ride, handling, performance, safety features, and especially its 4Matic all-wheel-drive system (for those models so equipped) were among the positive points cited by drivers. Some drivers felt that the rear seat in the sedan could be a tight fit for larger adults, and others felt the C320 models needed more power. In addition, many drivers recommended the upgrade to the in-dash CD player, which was not standard equipment in any of the C320 vehicles.
