There were no engine changes to the 1996 Benz C280 this year; it still had its 2.8 liter, 6-cylinder, 194 hp behemoth that produced a sound, solid, even quiet ride. The dashboard is still easy to read and control; a storage space in the center console; a high (albeit short) rear deck; ample rear seat room; and a trunk that's plenty big. And, ASR Traction control is optional.
This year, the taillights are attached to the body structure and, if you wanted to spring for it, an option was a headlight wiper system as were rear-retractable headrests in the back -- each lending additional safety features. As for comfort? If you're tall, you're still in luck. Even the front headrests adjust to ease those straining neck.
Most general complaints we learned of focused on the problem that isn't really a problem. If you want dependability, power, performance, comfort, and the ultimate drive, the '96 C280 is it. But, if you want "fun," perhaps the car isn't for you.
