CarGurus' 2006 Volvo C70 Review

Volvo's convertible came back in 2006, hoping to wow the world with its new feature: a three-section, retractable hardtop. It returned after an extra year of retooling after the 2004 model year - a 2005 C70 does not exist.
The four-seater's steel top features a glass window that provides more rear visibility than the earlier soft-top versions did when in the up position. That's a useful improvement for sure, especially in a Volvo, where safety is the theme.
The 2.5-liter, 5-cylinder engine doles out 218 horsepower and features a light-pressure turbocharger for a bit of additional pep. A 6-speed manual overdrive transmission came standard, with an optional 5-speed automatic available. The list of standard equipment included air conditioning (you'll need it - it's going to rain now and then), power doors and windows, and power seats.
Volvo's well-reputed safety components are a given, too, with air bags, side-impact beams, and the patented Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) all in there. ABS, traction control, and stability control join in for good measure, but this car was not made with AWD. Pop-up roll bars wait in the wings to help protect the occupants if the unspeakable should happen.
In online reviews, John Q. User praised the car for its looks, speediness, and comfort. Some grumbled about the seemingly oversized doors and the disappointing gas mileage, but the head-turning appearance of the car (especially when the top is doing its thing) probably makes them forget about their frequent fill-ups. There were also some mild complaints concerning the trunk space - you have to get accustomed to the diminished capacity when you have the top down.
