CarGurus' 2003 Volkswagen Jetta Review

The big news for 2003 was that the extensive lineup of Jetta sedans and wagons came with expanded lists of standard features. For starters, power windows, cruise control, power heated mirrors, and a CD player were standard equipment across the line. Other standard features in all Jettas included power door locks, anti-lock brakes, dual airbags, and air conditioning.

Volkswagen also made some adjustments to its sedan and wagon trim packages. The GLX wagons were gone, for instance, although the GLX sedans with a 200-horsepower, 2.8-liter V6 engine remained. And new options were available for the high-end GLX 1.8T wagon, including leather seats, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, and steering-wheel mounted controls. In addition, options such as stability control and a CD changer were available across the line.

Driver's were impressed with the Jetta's handling, acceleration, safety features, and comfort, and with the gas milesage of the diesel-engined Jettas. On the downside, reliability and quality-control issues were noted by some drivers.
