The 1991 Saturn S-Series represented Saturn's first effort to capitalize on the success of foreign compact sedans.  This new model helped pave the way for a strong franchise by using dent resistant plastic in the body and providing solid all-around performance.  Overall, the 1991 S-Series had 4 trims: SL, SL1, SL2, and the SC.  The first 3 gave consumers a dependable sedan with room for 5 while the SC provided a sportier alternative with 2 doors and room for 4.

Overall, the 1991 Saturn S-Series has stood the test of time.  Consumers report very few problems, even with models pushing 180,000 miles.  However, engine noise and a bland-looking exterior constitute the main concerns that have grown into a recurring theme with Saturn owners.  Needless to say, consumers looking for more than just a serviceable ride should look further down the family tree for a more modern model.
