[Edit] The 2006 Ford Fusion was launched as a replacement for the golden oldie Ford Taurus, long a favorite in the mid-sized family sedan market segment. The '06 Fusion isn't ever going to be anybody's dream muscle car, but for a vehicle at this price point, it provides an impressive degree of comfort and a smooth, easy-handling ride.
Under the hood, you'll find a 2.3 liter inline-4 engine with 160 horsepower; buyers looking for more oomph can upgrade to a 24-valve, double overhead cam 3.0 liter V6 Duratec (this one comes with variable valve timing, which translates to a healthy 221-horsepower max output). The 4-cylinder engine is offered with a choice of 5-speed manual transmission or an upgrade to automatic; the V-6 is available only as an automatic.
The back seat of the '06 Ford Fusion is roomy enough for adults, with reasonable headroom for a midsize car. The front seats are ergonomically designed, and reviewers describe them as very comfortable. The dashboard layout has gotten a lot of good press, as well, for its intuitive arrangement.
